Suppose for a moment that I am a new immigrant to The United States who does not speak English but who is very motivated and interested in learning the language. In addition to that, suppose that you have the opportunity to be my first teacher. What kind of teaching methods or strategies would you employ so that I begin to achieve my objective (learn English)?
I would be sure to use a lot of TPR and visuals. Games and music (short chants, for instance) would also be good for a lower-level entering student.
ReplyDeleteI agree with visuals, but games? Not too sure. A lot of looking and listening and repeating should be involved in beginning level, but games might end up being a distraction.
DeleteI would recommend spending time with native speakers as much as possible and watch a quality TV like "History channel", or something that appeals to your interests.
